First there was the “Cloud“, then the “Music Cloud”, and now Amazon is introducing the “Kindle Cloud Reader.” Hoping to sell Amazon eBook titles on iPads, Kindle has created a software program (HTML5 based) that allows “users to read directly from a web page that is on or offline.”

Currently, the Cloud Reader can be accessed with Safari, iPad and Chrome browsers. Within weeks, it will be available to users of IE, Firefox, Blackberry Playbook and mobile browsers.

From Dorothy Nicholls, Director of Amazon Kindle; “We have written the application from the ground up in HTML5, so that customers can also access their content offline directly from their browser. The flexibility of HTML5 allows us to build one application that automatically adapts to the platform you’re using -from Chrome, to iOS. To make it easy and seamless to discover new books, we’ve added an integrated, touch optimized store directly into Cloud Reader, allowing customers one click access to a vast selection of books.”
