Powerful Protest Stops SOPA Bill

In protest of two bills before Congress, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) legislators are stopping their passage. Being hailed as “the largest online protest in Internet history” support for the two pieces of legislation has fizzled.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation notes that, “EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) helped users send over 1- million e-mails to Congress. Web traffic briefly brought down the Senate website, 162-million people visited Wikipeda, 8-million looked up their representatives’ phone numbers, Google received over 7-million signatures on their petition.

While this seems like a victory for those who opposed this legislation, there are still 30 “co-sponsors in the Senate” and both PIPA and SOPA will likely be amended and brought before both Houses again.
