Libraries Stop Buying eBooks

If Random House Publishing keeps raising it’s eBook prices, their books may not be available in any library. Coming on the heels of the public library system in Nova Scotia, Canada’s refusal to pay what they consider exorbitant ebook prices, Libraries Online Incorporated which is made up of public, academic and school libraries in the state of Connecticut will no longer be purchasing books from the publishing giant. In a press release from Richard Conroy, president of Libraries Online Incorporated he said: “Under Random House’s new pricing policy, an ebook that would have cost the (LION) consortium $35 to purchase through OverDrive on February 29 cost them $105 on March 1.”

Reports from various libraries say that Random has doubled and in some case tripled their eBook prices to libraries in just the last month.
