SPECIAL FEATURE: Falling in Love with Author Betsy St. Armant

Talking with Betsy about what she loves about fall……..

Fall is hands-down my most favorite time of year. It could be partly due to how in Louisiana, summer is about five months long. The temps here begin to rise into the 90’s in mid/late May and hold steady until much later in the year. So for us, Fall is brief. It doesn’t start getting cooler again until late October. Whenever Fall decides to show its lovely face, I’m waiting with open arms.

Fall is magical. Beyond the start of the holiday season, beyond the pumpkin-spice lattes and the brisk winds and the chance to wear cute boots, there are the leaves. Be still my heart!

After my ex-husband initiated a divorce, I went to a women’s retreat in the Colorado mountains and had my first encounter with Aspens. Their golden leaves rustled in the breeze against pristine white snowbanks and I was smitten. Something about those Aspens, waving their branches and whispering promises of hope, rooted deep inside me. They were so joyful. God used them to bring healing to my battered spirit. I thought, if they could do their job on that mountainside and bring Him glory no matter what, well, so could I—broken heart and all.

It turns out there is a word for the glorious sound of rustling leaves—Psithurism.

The trees continued to teach me lessons years later—such as how beautiful it is to let dead things go. “Ruska”, or the process of leaves turning those beautiful colors, is a lovely concept. Too often we hold on to the past or to things that need to float away. The leaves teach that in style. I took their advice, let go of the past, and married a handsome drummer (who also enjoys the outdoors and hangs hammocks in trees for me) I found a new season in life.

My daughter used to roll her eyes when I’d get so excited as we drove past a grove of trees boasting crisp burgundy, mauve, and golden leaves. Now, she helps point them out to me while we gleefully exclaim together “look! a happy tree!” (sometimes, there might or might not be baby talk toward these tall, leafy guys!)

All the seasons bring their own unique joys, but me? I’ll be here, forever falling for Fall.

Betsy’s latest release is THE KEY TO LOVE:::::

Baker Bri Duval has always dreamt of an epic romance like her late parents shared. She even created her own version of the famous Parisian love-lock wall at her bakery in Story, Kansas. However, the last thing she expected was for her wall to go viral and garner the attention of a national magazine, which then sends Gerard Fortier—an edgy yet undeniably handsome reporter—to cover the story.

Bri is torn between her growing attraction for the jaded reporter and her desire to hold out for the fairy- tale romance she’s always wanted. Life gets more complicated when an ex-boyfriend threatens her business and a sudden discovery topples the pedestal she’s always put her parents on. Can Bri and Gerard work together to fight for her livelihood, heal from their pasts, and realize that love doesn’t always look the way we expect?
